Set Out from Your Mind

Mencius 孟子 spoke of the four innate ethical dispositions (si shan duan 四善端) and even though I have reservations about it, I agree entirely with his disposition of the sense of right and wrong (shi fei zhi xin 是非之心). This sense of right and wrong is being able to tell right from wrong and having such an ability is a proof of wisdom.

However, when applying the “sense of right and wrong” to a mother’s love, there is no one way to define what is absolutely right. Some mothers choose to cover up for their child when he makes a mistake, hoping that it will help him feel less guilty, or to assure him that what he did was correct. This will only cause the child to do as he pleases and disregard the law. It may even cause the child to be deluded, thinking that he has the ability to get away with any misdoings.

On playing the role of a mother, the mother of Mencius is quite different from the rest.

Mencius’s mother moved her house three times just for her child. While it was a laborious task, she had no qualms about moving as long as it could provide a good environment for Mencius to cultivate and develop a good personality. It is never easy to move out of one’s comfort zone and venture into unfamiliar grounds. But why did she do it?

It stems from her “sense of right and wrong”, which gives her the ability to identify good people, the wisdom to pass good judgements, as well as the courage to make good decisions. Being a wise mother, she made an extraordinary decision. Everything she did was for her child to become a virtuous man with good character and cultivation.

It is never easy to be a mother.
How great is the love of a mother!

Behind every successful man is a woman who quietly gives him all the support he needs.

A mother will always provide support (kao shan 靠山) for her child. Perhaps in time to come, as the child grows in age and wisdom, he may no longer see this support as vividly as how he used to. But the support has always been there, protecting him silently. While it does not reveal itself, this profound and deeply-rooted support has always been around you.

Very much like this panda that sits down comfortably and resting its body on a hill, you may not see the hill, but it is very dependable. You may not be able to see through it, but this mysterious and dependable strength has always been edging you forward, supporting you in your pursuit of success and riches.

Remember, your mother will always be your support.

A support that sits quietly behind you.

Since the olden days, children who have their mothers are well taken care of, whereas those without are left to fend for themselves. Therefore, children who still have their mothers with them should learn to cherish and be thankful, while those without will need to stay strong.

Mencius once said that we should honour the aged of other families as we honour our own, care for the young of other families as we care for our own (老吾老以及人之老,幼吾幼以及人之幼), this is yet another form of love, a “universal love”.

It is great to care for the aged and young in our families, but if we can extend this personal love to everything around us, how wonderful will that be! Guan Yin has within her a universal love; hence she takes 33 forms to enlighten the countless sentient beings. After putting in a great amount of effort and perseverance, she finally takes the form of the Thousand Hand Guan Yin, the most powerful form of incarnation that best enables her to accomplish her mission.

By taking good care of yourself,
you will be able to do more to care for your husband and children.

The universal love of the Thousand Hand Guan Yin is heart-warming.

Here in Lotus on Water, we always have mothers who wholeheartedly wish the best for their children. They choose to put on accessories that will bring good fortune to their husbands and children. It is common for mothers to put on the Thousand Hand Guan Yin jadeite to pray for good results and successful careers for their children.

To a mother,
the happiness of her child will always be her top priority.

The Shining Purple Guan Yin Jadeite.

For the mother who incessantly worries for her child, constantly praying for him to have a safe and smooth-sailing life.

Here is a tangible accessory that can ease your mind for you to take good care of yourself, your husband and your child. Why not put this on, and set out from your mind.
