如意

古代官员们在朝廷上肘时, 把要报告给皇帝的事都写在笔记本上，斌告皇帝。皇帝看了就会就如你所愿，如你所意，照着官员说的去做，把肘给批下了。因此如意也有权力的象征。

老山檀香宝瓶观音

云龙子旺财馆有宝瓶和净瓶观音的沉檀香牌与雕像、水晶山和翡翠牌。净瓶观音菩萨就是把水倒出，把不好的东西清除掉和把不好的吸进去，转成好的，有消灾解难的意义。宝瓶观音的宝瓶平放着，有平平安安的意思。

这是一尊雕有蝙蝠和葫芦的水晶山，不但有福禄的意思，还有财气飞来的意思。这一尊水晶山非常适合摆在家里做大风水，福气和财气都一起飞到您身边。

Museum In Lotus《莲中博物》Episode 2: Kerala Lamp

Welcome back to another episode of Museum in Lotus. We have Mr Pino and Mr Kan joining us today! In this episode, (click here to watch on Facebook or here on YouTube) we get to find out more about Mr Pino. 

Mr Pino started his banking career in the '70s. For 40 years, he worked in the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in Italy. Founded in 1472, it is the oldest bank in the world. A  respectable gentleman with years of banking experience, Mr Pino is also very well-traveled  and  has a passionate interest in Art. 

Let's move on today's main topic, the Kerala Lamp. This lamp is known as Deepasthambham. It originated from Kerala, southern India, around late 17th century or early 18th century. The Malayalam word "Deepam" which means light and "Sthambham" means pillar. The Indian culture has emphasis on lights, for example Deepavali, which is also known as the festival of lights. A time for people to renew themselves. Light also represent the victory light has over darkness.

Deepasthambham has at the bottom three pedestals, one plain surmounted by two ornate ones. The first ornate piece with red pigments has single repetitive petals on each side. The red pigments represent sensuality and purity. The second with blue pigments background has a complete motif of the Lotus flower. Blue signifies infinite and immeasurable.

On the pedestals, sits the strong and elegant World Turtle, also known as "Kurma" which is said to support or contain the world. Kurma is an avatar of the god Vishnu, who symbolises firmness and meditation of one's mind. On the back of the Kurma is a serpent called Naga. Nagas are actually very important in Indian culture. It is believed that when one prays to the Naga, he will have a bountiful harvest. 

The lamp is like a symbol of hope, the light in the darkness. Just like how Master Yun's paintings and calligraphy glow in the dark, under UV light. The positive energy from the painting drives us to achieve our goals.

Next, there was a gigantic black inkstone showcased. ( Not for sale of course!) It is called 龙舞天庭 and it has an interesting story behind it. When the huge inkstone arrived outside the gallery, 10 strong men were called upon to carry the inkstone into the gallery. However, the men couldn't lift it, because the delivery men mistook the weight of the black inkstone as 250kg, instead of 1250kg!

The delivery team and Lotus advisors were in a dilemma, either to send the inkstone back to customs, or use heavy machinery to carry the giant treasure into the gallery. In the end, we decided on the latter.

That day, it was raining heavily, which made the whole issue much more complex and difficult. Bracing the storm, they moved the mega black inkstone. Once the black inkstone touched the gallery floor, the rain stopped immediately! As if the heavenly conflicts were resolved, and smoothened, with the mega black inkstone in place.

There are 9 dragons on the Black Inkstone and since 9 is the strongest yang number, the prosperity of the Lotus Family would also be immense.

Museum In Lotus 《莲中博物》episode 3: Monastery Chest

Another episode of Museum In Lotus, with Mr Kan and Mr Pino sharing the backstory of all the amazing personal treasures of Master Yun.

The featured treasure today is a monastery chest from late 15th century or early 16th century which is much older than the dowry chest featured in our first episode. It is therefore, at least 500 to 600 years old!  This chest is made out of soft wood and is most likely used in the Potala Holy Palace in Lhasa by clergy to transport the goods and precious items  to the palace.

There are sturdy iron straps around the chest that are hand-forged. It has a solid lid with an exquisite lock mechanism.  This lock together with the elaborate decoration on the chest shows that items that were once stored in the chest were extremely valuable (possibly holy scripts or beautiful Buddhism paintings known as thangka). The chest also has a scalloped rim for decorative purposes. At the center part of the chest is the cartouche or medallion where we can see a burning jewels motif.

If we look closely, we can see that actually the decorations have a focus on the number "3". There are 3 layers of the scalloped designed rim, 3 plain arrow shape iron straps to strengthen the joints of the chest. "3“ is an auspicious number which in Buddhism and Tibet, refers to the Sun, Moon and Star.

Furthermore, the act of bowing is repeated three times, the first to express devotion to the buddha, second to the Dharma teachings and third to the Sangha or the Buddhist community. These three together are known as the triple gems. Lastly, "3" can also represents the meaning of not speaking, hearing and seeing evil which are the core values a true Buddhist believer should follow.

Lotus on Water sells only things related to fengshui, and we only sell them first hand. From the earth, to the talented carvers, and then into the hands of our lovely clients.

Today's artefact is something I am sure everyone has seen when lighting incense at the Art Gallery.

The majestic box is actually an Indian Dowry Chest from the 18th to 19th century, which was used to safekeep the bride's gifts from the groom. These gifts are usually gems or money.

The sheer size of this chest allows us to infer the huge wealth of this Indian family who commissioned this piece of furniture that plays a significant role in ancient Indian culture and marriage.

Furthermore, the design of the chest is also very detailed. Light iron rosettes in each panel decorate the chest while half lotus motifs are placed on each side of the chest. The intricate carvings show the high level expert's ability who was commissioned to create this chest.

Master Yun stores his unfinished paintings in this chest. Just like gems, Master Yun's paintings are also very beautiful and of the highest quality. This chest only holds treasure.

Lastly, an elaborate lock system is used to provide security for the contents inside the chest. It includes hand-forged iron chains, which are at the upper front of the chest.

10 October, another wonderful episode of 看见他，戴你發! The topic was on flowers. Typically, we appreciate flowers because of their sweet fragrance and vibrant colours. However, this episode will make bring the appreciation of flowers onto a whole new level.

We had two beautiful ladies hosting the show, Doreen 姐 and Angeline, the Queen of insurance industry!

The flowers that were discussed in the Facebook live belong to a group that the Chinese call 四君子花 （The Four Gentlemen). These flowers constantly find their way into traditional Chinese calligraphy paintings.

1. Orchid, 胡姬花

Orchid represent beauty and strength. During Lotus on Water events, we do give pots of Orchid to our treasured clients. And, we only give the flowers that are of the highest quality, those with the most and biggest flowers. We also have a Orchid jadeite pendant, it is very beautiful and suitable for ladies. 2. Bamboo, 竹子

Bamboo is very sturdy and grows at a extremely fast rate. It symbolises growth and strength.

What is Art Beyond Museums?

Museums are places to collect arts and show them to the people.

Therefore, in Art Beyond Museums, we will be exhibiting Master Yun's fengshui paintings along with Singapore historically significant beautiful and amazing places that people around the world should and could visit.

And for those of us who are new and was wondering what is Lotus on Water and who is Master Yun?

This is Master Yun Long Zi. He is the sixth generation Feng Shui master in his family. Master Yun inherited all the wisdom and knowledge from the family. He founded Lotus On Water in 2006. 

 

Since young, Master Yun has been practicing art and in 2019, he was recognized by China's CCTV. They made a special documentary about him and gave him awards such as achievement in arts awards, giving titles such as each I-Ching Gold Medal Master Award and so on. 

 

Master Yun is also the first artist to be invited into the Great Wall Of China to have an art exhibition. Till date, Master Yun has had 14 major art exhibitions in different part of the world.

 

So, why is Master Yun's Fengshui Paintings so special?

Master Yun has used different techniques in his paintings, including oil painting and the layering techniques. If you take a closer look, you can feel the 3D effect. It is a modern painting of these two techniques, and many other techniques connected and bridged in one piece of Master Yun's work.

Master Yun's arts also uses 24K gold, 18K gold and real silver to create the different layers and textures. This is an important aspect of Master Yun's art as it bridges time. Gold is something that can transcend time. Master Yun is definitely the first artist to have used so much gold and silver with layering effects and textures in his paintings!

With gold as one of the key materials used in Master Yun's painting, you can be assured that Master Yun's painting can be kept for a very, very long time.

Every single ingredient that is used in Master Yun's painting is very fine and of the highest quality that would not erode over time easily.

The paper used in Master Yun's paintings is not simple rice paper. It is a special kind of paper called the Dong Ba paper. Dong Ba paper can take thick layers of colours and it can last for a very long time.

Master Yun's paintings does not have any empty white spaces. They are actually covered with different layers of colour splashing, gold and silver pine soot ink and so on. Therefore, Master Yun's painting can endure time, bridging the past and present.

Master Yun's art is also connecting visual media with Laurent-Perrier champagne. Laurent-Perrier is established in 1812 and for all these 200 plus years, they have not worked with any other artist. The first artist they worked with is Master Yun!
