云大师的每一幅风水画都会让我联想到美妙的诗句,带给我满满的能量;

Master Yun Fengshui Painting - The Gown of Prosperity 《

When I stepped into Lotus on Water Gallery initially (March 2020 - how time flies), I did not know apart from all the jadeite and precious treasures, Master Yun was already famed globally for his paintings.

If you think of paintings coming from a Chinese man can only consist of black, white and red (the typical colors used in traditional oriental paintings for mountain, water, little huts, cranes, eagles etc), I invite you to come down to Lotus on Water Gallery, join me and witness yourself how Master Yun has create a new horizon for Chinese paintings. On top of that, each and every of Master Yun's paintings is unique (no 2 pieces are the same) and contain Fengshui elements through the expensive and authentic materials Master Yun use in all his paintings.

There are many customers who have prospered after bringing the painting home and come back for 2nd, 3rd and even 4th! It's your turn to prosper too!

Today, I am going to introduce to you this painting of peacock that calls out to me, without me looking at the title of it (Well, I would love to snatch this up but I already have chosen another painting. So, my loss is definitely your gain).

The Gown of Prosperity

Let us take a closer look at this painting - can you tell where is the peacock's head?

The head of peacock is the gold portion near top right.
The head of peacock is the gold portion near top right

From my own perspective, golden peonies are at the top left corner and the peacock has graciously turned its head around to have a look at the wealth and achievement he has accumulated over the years on his "gown" and perhaps, feels amazed by his own transformation and success.

We all know how important it is for the male peacocks to spread his feathers in upright position to attract the female peacocks and at the same time, frighten the enemies off with his "thousand eyes" on his gorgeous feathers. Now, the peacock in this painting gives me a feeling that he is graceful, calm and confident. He does not need to show off his success and beauty because he knows deep inside him that he already has it all and as long as he wants, he just need to turn his head back to appreciate his own achievement. He does not need to concern how he looks in front of others because he knows everyone else is looking upon him and wishes that they will one day be like him.

Don't you want to be like this peacock, standing at the peak of your life, calm and confident, looking back casually at your own achievement and glory?

I can sense that you nodding in silence and staring at the painting. Well, I have more reasons for you to stare even further. Master Yun's paintings come with 3 mind-blowing looks - one that you already see above i.e. the normal day-light look. Can you guess the other 2 looks?

The Gown of Prosperity under UV lighting

Yes, you have just stepped into the galaxy with Master Yun's painting. Under UV lighting, it appears like all the planets in the galaxy are gathering towards the top direction, reflecting all the prosperity spread across the entire galaxy is flowing towards you in this painting! Isn't this exciting?!

The final look of this painting is the after-effect after the UV lighting is being switched off. You will most likely see this effect after you finish your day by staring at the painting , decide to head to bed and turn off the UV lamp.

The Gown of Prosperity After UV Lighting

The coolest thing is because of the colors of UV paint Master Yun uses on this painting (and many of Master Yun's other masterpieces), the UV effect on the painting lingers on and presents this special look! I am not sure why, but this look gives me the vibe that the collector of this painting will definitely be showered by prosperity and goodness from the above. I see that treasures are pouring from the sky in my perspective.

Now, back to the beginning of this article where I mention about the expensive and authentic materials being used in this painting. I will share a little bit over here for your information:

  • 24k gold
  • Real Silver
  • Champagne
  • Master Yun's seals and many more...

This painting has been exhibited in Bangkok and also featured in "Art Beyond Museum" series at Punjab Grill, Singapore.

If there is one thing you must do for yourself, make an appointment with Cola from Lotus at 8137 8024 to view the painting in real life!

Harvest

云大师谈“日月系列”:“日”子的写法 | Master Yun on "Sun and Moon series": Thoughts on the Chinese Character 日

I always have some thoughts about why the Chinese character 日 (reads ri, means the sun) is so written.

My questions are…why wasn't the 日 drawn a circle, but four straight lines instead? And why did we add a dot (or a line) in the center?

When I studied Chinese Etymology, the textbook said that ancient Chinese drew the shape of the sun. But they drew straight lines because they were carving with knives on the bones and turtle shells. It was easier to carve straight lines then curves. And the block dot in the centre was that they observed the occasional incomplete combustion of the sun that created the black spots.

But no…after the most ancient bone oracles, most of the time Chinese used soft writing instruments like Chinese brush to write. It is definitely easier to draw a circle than to write four strokes.

Historically, Chinese characters are not totally formed by convention in a democratically “natural” manner. It has gone through many stages of official reformation, whereby the political leaders appointed the intellectual elites to canonize words after much research and pondering.

In other words, Chinese words are not evolved to what they are now through illogical arbitrary. The forms contain the highest wisdom of our civilization.

For instance, Chinese was a thousand years earlier than the West to discover that the earth revolves around the Sun. And in very ancient times, we Chinese already knew that when the earth traveled to four different corners around the sun, we get our four seasons.

Thus, I believe when the ancient Chinese said 日ri, we were not only referring to the sun itself (that is 日头 ritou, meaning “the head of the ri”). 日 ri represents the full solar system and the energy and effects the sun in this system can give.

The character 曰 ri, has four corners and four straight lines, representing the mathematical regularity the system observes. On the dot of time, spring, summer, autumn and winter arrive.

When sunlight falls onto earth, we see it as straight lines. Most importantly, the lights are physical expressions of the metaphysical idea of Yang energy. Yang is represented by straight lines.

The 日 ri I drew has small rounded knots on the four straight lines. The knots represent the stars in the solar system. And center of 日 is the sun.

日 ri represents the energy of greatness and Yang. It is self sustaining and magnificently strong (like the sun). And it is the one that makes the stars around move and evolve.

Master Yun: Speech of Gratitude, Only Overseas Chinese Artist to Receive Classic Art Award

For almost two years, I have not stepped onto the motherland of China. It is indeed, the pandemic that had separated me from my motherland.

However, China has given me numerous awards, continuously, to me, an overseas Chinese who has left my motherland three generations ago.

Today is the 72nd birthday anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. I am very honored to have received on this Chinese National Day, an award of Classical Exchange of Celebrity Artists. Instead of saying that this is an award of recognition from my motherland to me, I rather fathom this as an encouragement to all Chinese all over the world. We are not only bearing the same root and the same source, the same language and the same culture, we also suffer the same humiliation and enjoy the same honor.

In our battle against the pandemic, the war is not over. The winners and losers are not final. But we can see that my motherland China is ahead of the race.

That’s because we are clear in our Chinese blood: to be united is more important than to compete, and that the team is more important than individuals, and duty is higher than rights.
My ancestors left our motherland three generations ago to Southeast Asia. I was born in Malaysia, and 37 years ago, I came to Singapore. Last year, I was given the citizenship of Singapore.
As compared to most Chinese, I underwent a slightly different political background and baptism of social education.
However, I share with most Chinese, the same ancestors, the same history, and the same language.

Before the pandemic attacked the human race, I had my art exhibitions in Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands, and Spain. I was planning for my exhibitions in Cambodia's Angkor Wat, France, England and America. But because of the pandemic, all these are delayed.

However, last year, when pandemic was at its fiercest tide, I was invited to the Great Wall of China to exhibit my Feng Shui paintings and my Feng Shui calligraphies. I displayed my art with a heart of gratitude on the oldest and greatest Great Wall of China.

From an artist’s point of view, I find it quite puzzling. The many, many countries who acclaimed themselves as lovers and patrons of art, in the face of the adversity of the pandemic, have not stopped protests and strikes, have not stopped political struggles and conflicts, but have stopped in their promoting and supporting of art and culture.

And when I looked at my motherland China, her footsteps to support and promote art and culture, have never stopped, with or without the pandemic.

At my art exhibition on the Great Wall of China, there was an old General of eighty over years old. He was helped by two young men, and with a few other teammates of sixties, seventies years old, walked up to the Great Wall to support my art.

Because I am not a Chinese citizen, I could not fly into China during the pandemic. But when I received the videos and photographs sent by my Chinese partner from the Great Wall, tears filled my eyes.

I was moved. This old General has never met me before. But despite physical infirmity, was like a cheerful young man, climbed up the Great Wall, participated the exhibition, supported the culture and promoted the art.

And I am even more moved. That my motherland China, a great dragon of five thousands over years as a magnificent civilization, has not looked down on a son who has left her bosom for three generations, and has no fear of the challenges of the pandemic, to recognize me as an artist with the warmest hospitality, and to promote art in truest actions.

The words shall cease but the spirit never.

On this day, the seventy-second birthday of the People’s Republic of China, I wish my motherland:

Everlasting youthfulness!
Long live forever!

Master Yun on "Sun and Moon series": What Does It Mean?

A lot of people is asking. What does your title means? “Ri Yue Tong Guang”? Shining together with the Sun and Moon?

It means: (The person) is shining brightness together with the Sun and the Moon.
It describes the inner strength and character of a person, or that his contribution is extremely great.

The earliest the phrase “Ri Yue Tong Guang” appeared was in the classic of Huai Nan Zi. The classic that blends Philosophical Taoism, Confucianism and Legalism:

“Those who can travel into the realm of divination, will shine brightly with the Sun and the Moon.”

And I agree.

Master Yun on "Sun and Moon series": Kun Motif

The series of “Sun and Moon”.

Kun Motif.

I use orangy yellow to represent the moon, which also represents Kun or Yin. The swirl is reversed clockwise (or anti clockwise).

The moon does not give out light of her own. She reflects the light of the Sun.
It seems like the moon is useless, but actually she affects the tides of the water.
When the moon is close to us, the water tides go up and the sea water will flow reverse back up the river. (That’s why my Kun Motif turns anti clockwise )
The reverse flow of the seawater brings minerals and nutrients up the river. Many kinds of fishes and water creatures breed as they swim upstream.

The energy of Kun (moon) brings about harvest and prosperity to human being.

Thus the Kun Motif symbolizes prosperity.

Master Yun Long Zi

Master Yun on "Sun and Moon series": Qian Motif

Recently I have some inspiration to do a series of fengshui calligraphies.

The series is called “Sun and Moon”, or “Qian and Kun”.

Because I innovated the Qian and Kun motifs.

The Sun is a concrete object, Qian and Yang means the Sun, but are metaphysical concepts.
So I use an abstract artistic motif to symbolize it. And I call it Qian Motif.

My Qian Motif is painted with green ultra Violet paint with Cyan dye from the plants. The motif is turned clockwise.

Qian is Yang, also the Sun.

All the energy of the Earth comes from the Sun. The Sunlight moves along the time (so the motif is clockwise), to arrive the earth, and through photosynthesis (so the motif is green and cyan) and becomes the energy in the plants.
The animals, including human beings, absorb the energy of the plants, and gain energy for the bodies.
Even when the bodies perish, the energy exists, becoming the rich soil, and fossils and fossil fuels…. On earth, transforming in forms with the flow of time.

Thus is the energy of Qian.

I draw out the Qian Motif.

MEGA Fengshui Painting-Calligraphy “The Flying Dragon Up at Heaven” |

[On 3rd December 2020, in conjunction with Master Yun being the first painter and Singaporean to exhibit fengshui paintings on the Great Wall of China, Master Yun embarked on the mega project of painting a calligraphy piece of 10m by 2m. The artwork comprises of many layers, and took 3 days to complete.]

Day 1:: First Layer: 《
“Opening the Heaven and Earth with One stroke, the Trinity of Heaven, Man and Earth”

“The Flying Dragon Up at Heaven” consists of six layers

The first layer is called

“Opening the Heaven and Earth with One stroke, the Trinity of Heaven, Man and Earth”

The color lines breaks up the pools of fluorescent Paint. (Yang and Ying)

The three colors represent the realms of Heaven Earth and Man.

Cyan blue represents the realm of Heaven

Gamboge Yellow represents the realm of Earth

The rouge and vermillion mixture of red represent the realm of Human.

The Tao Classic says: The oneness gave birth to Twoness, the twoness gave birth to trinity and the trinity gave birth to everything.

It is not numerical

The Oneness is the entity of Taiji, which gave birth to twoness (Ying and Yang) and give birth to the trinity ( Heaven Earth and Human), thus created everything.

Day 2:: Second Layer: 《
"Ten Wings Assisting the Dragon to Soar"

The second layer of “Flying Dragon Up at Heaven”

I call it “Ten Wings Assisting the Dragon to Soar”

“I-Ching” is the king of the six classics.

It has three authors

Fu Xi, Emperor Zhou Wen, and Confucius

Fu Xi drew the divinatory hexagrams

Emperor Zhou Wen wrote oracles to explain the divinatory hexagrams

Confucius edited and wrote “Ten Wings”.

“Ten Wings” explain the meaning of the divinatory hexagrams and the oracles

We use the White Inkstone to grind the red vermillion, and black Inkstone to grind the black ink. We mix the two inks to fill up the second layer.

With the education of “Ten Wings” the dragon is assisted to soar up to heaven.

Day 3 :: Third Layer:《群龙有道》
The third layer of “Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”.

The third layer of “Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”.

“Multitude of Dragons on the path of Tao”

The Classic reads: “multitude of dragons without head”

But the classic says it’s auspicious?

How to use art to express the scenario?

The cursive style of the character “dragon “ consists a dot (dragon head) and a curving line (dragon body).

I expand the dot to a circle, and joined one dragon with another dragon. One dragon head biting the tail of the other dragon.

After three rounds of dragons. The last dragon tail is joined with the first dragon head.

Thus, you can’t tell who is the head (or leader)

Day 3:: Fourth Layer:《飞龙在天》
“Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”.

The forth layer of “Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”.

Maybe most people have heard of “Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”

“Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”

Day 3:: Fifth Layer:
 “Flying Dragon Shedding Gold Scales.”

The fifth layer of “Flying Dragon Up the Heaven”.

“Flying Dragon Shedding Gold Scales.”

For this layer I don’t even use silver.

But only pure gold flakes.

Keeping the gold flakes inside copper cymbals.

When the cymbals are opened, I waved my Buddha duster to whip the gold flakes to the air.

Gold flakes float and dance in the air and slowly stick onto the survive writing of “Flying Dragons Up in Heaven”

The Calligraphy of that phrase itself looks like a flying and swirling dragon.

If you imagine the painting to be a pool of water, it is as though the flying dragon is shedding gold scales onto Heaven and earth.

Gold never rot, never evaporated, never rust. It’s the gift of blessings from Heaven.

Day 3:: Sixth Layer:
"Sealed with Red Vermilion"

Finale!

The big seal carved with my name and title has been sent to Beijing.

I have to use my palm instead.

Some people say I am using the magical seal of “Five Mountains “. The one that Buddha has used to contain the naughty monkey king.
