We work on things that we want to better at.  The golden nugget in Learning from repeated attempts is to do it better the next time.

When you repeat the same activity again, you are more prepared because you learn from your past interactions.  Just like a baby learning to walk, just like how I pick up English for the first time.  I work on it until I can speak English fluently now.  We tend to forget how we put in so much effort to master grammar, verbs, adjectives and nouns.  We struggle up a slope, rest on a plateau, and struggle up another slope.  This is the natural progression to Success, and it is all in our own masteries.

Delivering your dreams to you

Many of you had wants in mind.  Some people have a blurry vision of what they want, some very clear.

At the writer's club last week, a fellow writer's experience brought me to think about how could Lotus treasures bring your dreams to reality.

How my Lotus treasures keep me in career safety

A recent article by my fellow writers club at Lotus reminded me of how my Lotus treasures managed to keep me safe in my career.

A few years ago, I applied for a position at bank.  It was a prestigious bank that I had also would like to be part of.  On the actual day of interview, I was brought to a different level that showed me the beautiful scenery of the sea.  I thought to myself, it was going to be smooth sailing like to lush blue sea on the horizon.

As I thought that this interview should be routine for the interviewer, I tried to make it more interesting by touching on the Greek election.  This is both a hot topic at that time that may have rampant repercussions to the rest of Europe and the world, as well as affecting the bank’s possible exposure to unwanted risks.  I treated this like a conversation piece and also as a means to convey to the interviewer my thought process and if this manner of thinking would add value to his department.

After an hour of interview, I left the glass building and waited for a reply.  I did not receive any reply informing me whether I had passed the my interview, even after 1 week of waiting.  I guess that this was normal for unsuccessful applicants.  I called up my HR consultant and realized that I was not offered this position.

1 month later, as I scrolled through Google to I read on some news, I saw the bank going through an episode that severely needed improvements in certain area of its operations.  This resulted in some monetary losses.  And the department that I was declined for potentially could be affected by this.

I thank my Lotus treasures for avoiding this even though on the surface of reality, it seems like a rejection, it was a blessing.  I was still back at my job, with an increased gratitude that I was wearing my Lotus treasures.

3 steps on how to stick the Lotus ring on Lotus Jadeite boulder

Some of you can recall trying to stick the Lotus Ring on the Giant Jade Boulder during last month's 9th anniversary or you could have done it using your own Lotus ring.

Now, I have created a video to show you in 3 simple steps on how is it done.

1. Hold ring with Index finger & thumb

This is to ensure the ring is held in a comfortable and stable position.  Preparing you for the next step.

With a clear and focused mind, put your fingers' weight onto the ring while pushing against the boulder.

Do take note:  Not all tries are successful, and remember to hold on to the ring and put another palm below to catch the ring if it drops.

Breathing Lotus - Rewarding experience

Last week, the entire office was asked to stay back for an important conference call with our main office in Chicago.  We do not know what to expect, and not even our CEO knows what is to be spoken.  On that night, we were surprised to hear that I had won Associate of the Quarter award from January to March this year.

 

I had been with this team for just over a year and was given plenty of opportunities to stretch my potential.  It was very easy to yield to natural habits of grumbling and negativities, leading to spirals downward.  But, I recall that we were all wearing Lotus treasures and with Lotus on Water and served as cultural ambassadors, spreading the brand of good fengshui, right from the same source that advised the imperial family.

 

If the imperial dynasties can rule the large land of China for hundreds of years, what say the advice given to enable this.  I had the privilege like many of our Lotus clients, to have the affinity to know about Lotus and wear Lotus.  Then we should live Lotus and breathe Lotus.

Believe, and you shall Receive with Lotus on Water

My dreams of being an officer were dashed when I found out that I had to be medically downgraded.  I was second-in-command in my army uniformed group during secondary school days.  Most of my friends from my advanced leadership course eventually became officers, except me.

 

I was very disappointed with myself and my father looked down upon me because he was a tank commander and projected his expectations onto me to be the same or better than him.  Little did I know, I was with a gang of miracle makers, the army clerks.

We were a bunch of misfits, but we believed that we were alright, or simply temporary misplaced.  Mr A. had epilepsy in the past.   He did his army job well and was not any medication.  We believed that he was okay.  He is now climbing more mountains than I was and doing his Masters in Chemical Engineering.  Mr D. was deemed psychologically unfit.  We believed he just needed some talking to and attention.  He read up on how is he behaving like this and believed he could walked out of this without medication.  He went on to mentor school children by tutoring them in Maths & Science.  He went on to take his degree at Singapore Management University and now enjoys rock-climbing and playing soccer.

Water your Lotus seeds of Greatness with Believe

During World War II, the Germans introduced an unbreakable code to transmit messages coded by the famous Enigma machine which ranged from gossips to military instructions on ship attacks.  As I watched the scene from The Imitation Game, I saw Alan Turing, a computer scientist trying to crack the Enigma code.  He was different from the rest of the team who used traditional cryptographic techniques which were unsuccessful when the Germans changed codes at midnight.

One day, while his commanding officer was trying to shut him down, his colleagues stepped in for him saying “Trust me when I tell you there is no one who would rather say this less than I do, but… he’s right.  Alan is right.”  They believed in Alan based on the logic that their current methods were unsuccessful and Alan is the last chance that could possibly break the code and win the war.  After a brief stroke of genius, Alan altered the programming slightly and did manage to break the code.

Alan had yet to crack the Enigma code, and his colleagues believed in him.  This led him to believe in himself that he could crack the code.   Believing in people before they have proven themselves is the key to motivating people to reach their full potential.  This goes for your Lotus treasures too.

Saving grace with a Lotus song

There will be days when we are down and depressed for whatever reason.  Whether is it work or something we heard or even a change in lighting can trigger off bad emotions.  I had mine when I was walking on my way back from work one day and it was simply too easy to be spinning in the wrong direction.

First, I was hungry.  I normally have something to eat at 5pm but was too engrossed with work and forgotten to eat.  So my glucose level was at an all time low.  This is like the body going into survival mode where everything is a spark to be angry and everything seems irritating.

Second, I had little sleep.  Because of the need to create a second source of wealth, I am engaging in picking up specialized knowledge at night, after my work in the day.  I was on 4 hours of sleep that night and after a well-meaning client spent a large portion of my efforts in the day, leaving my head throbbing to the lack of sleep and slightly groggy.

I believe these 2 points are good enough for most people to turn sunshine into dark thunderstorms in an instant and they will regret their consequences later on.

Back to the event, I was on a phone with my wife whom I had to speak regarding some matter which we usually be staying away from.  As we touch on the topic, I noticed my mood turned bad and I was about to say something nasty and contemptuous.  A song suddenly started playing into my mind.  “Lucky baby, you are such a lucky baby”.

Oh, I remember that I was fortunate to be wearing the Lotus treasures and be associated with Lotus on Water to tell people about how good fengshui can have good effects on people's’ lives.  I became grateful and humble in the midst of my recall and gradually change my mood for the better.

Prospering in Elegance

Usually a client, after paying for his pendant, will undergo some discomfort in his life.  Sometimes, the discomfort grows.  Sometimes, it goes away.  What we take back from this experience are training.  Training for something bigger than ourselves.  Bigger than what we are consciously aware of ourselves.

 

Ever wonder why people that are consistently wealthy stayed at the top year after year?  They have developed the capacity to command such an income and retain it as wealth.  To increase your capacity, it could take many decades.  I have seen clients that are earning millions a year and asked myself what did they do to get where they are.  What I can see is that their current output is worth a lot, given that everyone is on the same unit of time.

 

The 2nd question that I asked is: how did they create such high-value output?  I figured out that they have accumulated tremendous capacity to produce such output over a period of time.  Time measured by the same clock that ticks for everyone.  An example would be a neuro-surgeon, or CEO of a thriving storage company.  They have climbed to that position through extraordinary efforts placed into the same area of focus decades after decades.

 

But, I took notice of something else.  I saw the evidence of age and/or certain character traits that can be improved in them.  They have gained prosperity but may have neglected elegance.

 

In the Arts, Elegance is dignified and poise behavior or appearance.  In the Science/Maths, Elegance also meant for unusually simple yet highly effective design or process/formula.  Let’s compare an automatic wristwatch with a grandfather clock.

You can see the difference in Elegance from the Art perspective where the hands are sweeping smoothly on an automatic watch face compared with the sudden jerk forward of the minute hand on a grandfather clock with a loud thud.  The automatic watch face, too, has to be designed to functionally tell the time and look pleasing even after viewing it a thousand times.  If you have an inch of dislike, you will not stand to read time from your wrist.

 

And from the Science/Maths perspective where the Elegance in design of the wristwatch’s movements says plentiful compared to the movement design of the grandfather clock.  An automatic watch is able to tell the time while having its movements (its engine that drives the hands) compacted into a small space and light enough to be worn on the wrist. 

 

Every micrometer of space must be thought through many thousands of times and must be compared with the overall watch design/purpose.  While you cannot possibly wear a grandfather clock on your wrist to tell the time.  Its movements are much larger, clunkier and in some ways simpler compared to the wristwatch’s.

Many of us will straightaway put the lovely juicy slab of sashimi into our mouths without hesitation.  But, will you eat raw deer meat?  Venison Tartare is minced deer meat mixed with spices, ketchup and shallots presented with a raw egg yolk in the center.

 

Introduced by Marco Pierre White, the youngest chef to be awarded 3 Michelin stars, to get British people to support local industries by cooking up an exclusive Great British Feast for only 200 specially-invited tasters.  In his midst to find the perfect Appetizer to the feast with solely English-sourced ingredients, he chanced upon game meat, namely Venison.  It was a wild card that he had no confidence, which he had thrown together with 2 other choices in his initial round of survey.

 

Every diner was repulsive of having to swallow deer meat with raw egg yolk.  But, Marco mentioned “whoever has the opportunity to come into that dinner, should sit down, and they should have a go and they should taste a little bit of everything, even if it’s not to their liking.  Get your spoon, get your knife, get your fork and dig in.”  Diners had reservations about the Venison Tartare but eventually sportingly put the spoon into their mouths.  To Marco’s surprise, diners loved it and one even mentioned “Divine, divine”.  No one expected the raw deer meat, prepared well, taste so lovely.

Brave the Race with Lotus on Water

We all love to eat Salmon.  Whether is it sashimi or salmon steak, we feel enjoyment once we put the piece of fish into our mouth, or simply see the word ‘Salmon’.  We usually associate it with freshness, brain food, or fish meat that is red in colour.

What we do not know is, like the salmon, we are in a race to the finishing line.  For us, we could have dreams of huge wealth, great health and good benefactors.  For the salmon, it is to return to the place where they first born and reproduce offsprings to pass on the genes, very much like why grandparents would ask if there are grandchildren for them.

 

Did you know once the adult salmon travels from the saltwater sea to the freshwater streams, their body starts to deteriorate.  And then, that is where the clock starts ticking.  From the documentaries I watched, the salmon would decay with scales falling off, fins degrading and their flesh dropping off.  Some parts of the bones can be seen when the salmon swishes its tail.

 

But despite all this physical shortcomings, and time running against it, it has only one sole definite purpose, that is to return to the firstborn spot to spawn.  It has to defy gravity by leaping upstream over rocks and brave the bears’ claws looking for a meal.  Just like us.  Time is running out for us as we head towards our ‘finishing line’, and there are seemingly many obstacles that surround us, in the way of our path to the dreams what we have.  But by having a definite purpose, unrelenting persistence, we can be better than the salmon in navigating these challenges and become a better person in the midst.

How I used my Lotus treasure effectively: Fiji Sandalwood beads

First, find out the reason why do you want to get this Lotus treasure.

I want to seek inspirations for things that I do.  I also want to enhance my indirect wealth and be happy.  Most importantly, it is within our budget for a Sandalwood item, compared with a pendant.

Will you eat a sweet offered to you by a stranger you do not know?  But most of you will readily listen to fengshui advice dished out by the newspapers/magazines, on the internet, or even someone that claims he does fengshui for a living.

 

We do not know even if the advice is a fake or half-truth but we accepted it anyway.  Let me tell you what happens after that.  First, you are consciously altering your habits, changing the actions and thinking, with the assumption that the free fengshui advice can help better your life.  Next, most probably you will end up worse than before you listened to that free fengshui advice.  What happens is that you are living on a wobbly fengshui foundation that had made an impact in your life and the results that came back is disappointing.  Suddenly, you realized free fengshui did more harm than good. 

Little did you wonder, should you look for the stranger that you accepted the free sweet from?

 

A co-worker told me that she prefer to be ignorant as doing fengshui is tedious.  I told her that not doing fengshui is better than doing bad fengshui and ending up worst off.  Even if you have cross-check with other fengshui sources and think that it is good for you, can you implement the free fengshui advice properly to harness its potential, or will you step on fengshui landmine?

Is your Home arranged for Prosperity?

Every year, I will consult my Fengshui advisor for advice on home arrangements.  We will ask what are the best arrangements and check against our lifestyle flow.  What is a lifestyle flow?  Simply put, it is actually your daily routine.

What do you normally do at which location in the house?  e.g. Having breakfast at your dining table.  Looking into the mirror to prep yourself before going out at the dressing table.  Are you aware where these furniture are located in your house and how is your daily routine involving them?

Winston Churchill once addressed the English Architectural Association in 1924: “There is no doubt whatever about the influence of architecture and structure upon human character and action. We make our buildings and afterwards they make us. They regulate the course of our lives.”

We cannot control how roads are laid, buildings are built.  But, we can control how you move in your house, where your work desk is placed and what you can put to enhance prosperity.  (e.g. Annual Wealth Bags)  

Architects must involve thinking about how designing environments in which people live and work will eventually influence their human behaviour.  And so do you, if you want to pursue prosperity, please have your house fengshui-arranged by Lotus Advisors so that what you do in each specific location will ensure your actions bring you the maximum prosperity, luck and opportunity.

How Lotus treasures turn my dreadful presentation into a successful one?

I was in my previous job as a stock broker, that I was ‘arrowed’ or tasked to do a presentation that is something out of my scope (wordy regulations) to two very important people.

 

The day came for me to step up to the front of a packed conference room.  As I began I was very relaxed as I know I had did my work homework and my fengshui homework, I continued till the end with confidence and in pace.  And then comes the Q&A.  This is when it becomes a courtroom.

 

I was probed by the group chairman, who owned the firm and is a billionaire, as well as the HR director, who was known as unforgivingly direct.  I answered them appropriately.  And as they looked for uncovered areas, I expectedly stumbled.  I gave my best shot and they, to everyone’s surprise, became my benefactors by talking lovingly and caringly like a grandfather and grand-auntie to their grand-son.  They saw that I had done my best but wanted to make it better.  I was touched and felt very relieved when I managed to set the successful momentum for the rest of the presenters to follow.  In my 4 years at the company, never was this ever accomplished.  Not with any other staff of presentation.  I can say I was the first.

I thought to myself, my exquisite jadeite pendant did work to pull the Chairman and HR Director in my favour and my duanxi plum blossom inkstone did reduce the potential for arguments, turning them into benefactors instead.

How did I manage to be so successful?  I over-prep by consulting materials outside my company to gain new insights, and I diligently grind my duanxi inkstone in 6 repetitions as prescribed, while visualizing the desired outcome of a smooth and successful presentation. Holding on to my exquisite jadeite pendant which is a dragon-head ruyi, I recalled the emperor used jadeite and ruyi meant everything should go in my way.
