FOUNDING FATHER of Fengshui Jewelry: Master Yun Long Zi

Master Yun, FOUNDING FATHER of fengshui jewelry.

Now, we are all familiar with fengshui jewelry. Intimately so, for sure, since you are wearing your Lotus collections, beautifully, proudly, prosperously.

The concept of wearing something to improve one's luck, I think it definitely has been around for a while. But it was really Master Yun who insisted on it, persisted on the high standards, defined what can wear and what cannot wear...and coined the term "fengshui jewelry".

Jewelry that is tasteful, elegant, and can improve your fengshui.

Long, long ago, in one of our earliest blog articles, Master Yun has already made this clear, the direction of Lotus on Water:

Who and What is Lotus on Water?

Yes. Lotus on Water is a glorious Feng Shui revolution.

She is more concern with the prescription of Feng Shui than the diagnosis of it. In other words, she presents you the cure and not the inspection, the medicine and not the physician, the solutions on how to let Feng Shui bring your dream to reality than to tell you what you are destined.

In short, the reward and not the decree.

And even clearer over here, on what can be considered as an up-to-standard Lotus on Water fengshui jewelry:

Master Yun: Lotus on Water Sells Nothing, But These

The treasures sold in our galleries—jadeite, agarwood, sandalwood, Duan Xi inkstone, crystal Buddha statues—have been used for a long time in human history. This is why 90% of the treasures we sell can be found in auction houses.

Humans are fickle and our interest does not last long. We can be into something today and go crazy over another tomorrow. But there are a small number of things that stand the test of time, maintaining and proving its value.

And Lotus on Water sells nothing, but these.

— Master Yun Long Zi, 31st August 2016

AND, what's more, the Lotus fengshui jewelries are created by Master Yun himself.

You have already seen how creative Master Yun is with his fengshui paintings and calligraphies. Let us remember, Master Yun's creations in the realm of fengshui art, also manifest through fengshui jewelry.

Take our jadeite Zodiac Guardian Buddha series for instance. Though we just released this series in 2020, Master Yun actually already drafted/sketched them way back in 2015.

Also the top favorite Lotus jadeite Zhong Kui 钟馗, which so many clients have been buying since the gallery was founded. I still remember how I remarked to Master Yun in 2006, that how would anyone buy such a fierce-looking (like, 面目狰狞) design...guess what?

And also the Lotus jadeite ammonite 玉彩螺. When the gallery first started, a client brought over a fossil ammonite and asked if we sell something like that. I said, we only sell fengshui jewelries carved of jade. To which this client said: oh, I will definitely buy one if you carve a jadeite ammonite. And Master Yun went ahead to design and had them carved. Guess what, she didn't come back to buy. But the jadeite ammonite became one of our hottest collections, even till today.

Each line of fengshui jewelry has its origin story, which fuels the souls of the Lotus collections. Which is probably also why, it just feels different wearing Lotus fengshui jewelry. The unexplainable sense of wholesomeness, fulfillment, happiness...I am sure you can feel the soul and spirit of your Lotus collections.

As if they are alive.

It is free-of-charge to make ridiculous and laughable claims in today’s world. And there’s endless people doing that, claiming that they come from a lineage of fengshui masters (with no proof whatsoever), claiming that they came up with this or that design (which is blatantly a copy, and worse, a lousy and ugly imitation)...but I suppose sensible people can see and feel the difference.

The difference between soulless imitations that can’t even catch up with our dust, and authentic pieces from the FOUNDING FATHER of fengshui jewelry.

Proud to be the source.

Zodiac Guardian for DOG and PIG: Amitabha Buddha 阿弥陀佛

Friends born in the year of DOG and PIG, your zodiac Guardian -- Amitabha Buddha 阿弥陀佛 -- is the CEO.

If Vairocana Buddha 大日如来佛 (zodiac Guardian for those born in the year of Goat and Monkey) is the ultimate form, like the Chairman or the big boss, then Amitabha 阿弥陀佛 is the CEO. He is the master of "Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss 西方极乐世界".

"Wait. There's more than ONE Buddha?" When we started talking about the zodiac Guardians, this was one of the FAQs.

Yes. There is more than one Buddha. Long story.

That's why, hopefully, through the connection with serial dramas, more well-known tales and classics, and linking them to a corporate hierarchy (Chairman, CEO...), we can recognize them better.

TVB 1996's version of "Journey to the West"《齐天大圣》

Amitabha 阿弥陀佛 was the big boss who set the whole "Journey to the West"《西游记》in motion. He is also the boss of the many Bodhisattvas we talked about, Guan Yin 观音, Manjusri 文殊菩萨, Samantabhadra 普贤菩萨, Mahasthamaprapta 大势至菩萨...

Is he the same one who subdued the Monkey King 孙悟空 and banished him under the Five Finger Mountain 五指山?

Yes. Same Buddha.

When we say: 逃不出我的五指山 (can't escape from my control/palm/five-finger-mountain), we are referring to this specific episode.

Amitabha 阿弥陀佛 is the leader, and he vows to elevate people to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, a realm of "Immeasurable Light and Life 无量寿、无量光".

For the Lotus version, you will see that the background is full of "The Wheel of the Law (dharmachakra) 法轮". It represents many things, of which: the path and direction to a blissful life.

May those who receive blessings from Amitabha 阿弥陀佛 be blessed immeasurably, and never let a worthy opportunity slip from your hand.

Zodiac Guardian for ROOSTER: Acalanatha Bodhisattva 不动尊菩萨

This is a fierce-looking one.

The Acalanatha Bodhisattva 不动尊菩萨 (or, 不动明王). Guardian Buddha for those born in the year of Rooster.

As the name suggests, this Guardian represents strong and firm determination ("不动" = unwavering). Through his angry and fiery fierceness, he scares away your doubts, obstacles, bad energy.

Acalanatha 不动尊菩萨 is also a fighter, a warrior. And actually, he is the wrathful manifestation 忿怒化身 of Vairocana Buddha 大日如来 (the BOSS, remember?).

Vairocana 大日如来 represents the great sun, truth and order. We have a saying in Chinese: 佛都有火 -- even the Buddha will have fire (get angry). And that's when Acalanatha 不动尊菩萨 manifests. He is the warrior, the steadfast guardian. He is the wrathful manifestation. He is the FIRE.

Legend has it that Acalanatha 不动尊菩萨 trampled on the heads of those who arrogantly reject the truths and compassion of Vairocana 大日如来, subduing them, restoring order to the universe.

Sometimes, when some people cannot accept truth and logic, the FIRE must burn.

For the Lotus version, that's why we carved mountains behind Acalanatha Bodhisattva 不动尊菩萨. Steady as a mountain. Steadfast. Strong.

Worthy to take note, the peacock (upgraded-Rooster), the main subject-matter of Master Yun's fengshui paintings, has a similar meaning as the Acalanatha Bodhisattva 不动尊菩萨.

The peacock is compared to the Bodhisattva path (in "The Wheel of Sharp Weapons"《修心利刃轮》), when one upholds the high standards and integrity and not be moved by mediocrity and evils.

May those who receive blessings (and protection!) from Acalanatha 不动尊菩萨 gain worthy strong benefactors that will fight and win your wars, and be blessed with unwavering success of high standards.

Zodiac Guardian for GOAT and MONKEY: Vairocana Buddha 大日如来

The BOSS.

If you are born in the year of Goat or Monkey, your Guardian Buddha is, what I would say for simplicity sake, the BOSS: the Vairocana Buddha 大日如来佛.

And if you find the Boss's name familiar, you might be recalling movie "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons"《西游·降魔篇》(2013), directed by Stephen Chow 周星驰. In which during the "final boss scene", Tripitaka 唐三藏 called upon the Vairocana Buddha 大日如来佛 to subdue the Monkey King 孙悟空.

One hand. SMASH.

We see the same SUPERPOWER at the end of 2004's《功夫》(Kung Fu Hustle).

The 大招. The killer-combo.

Vairocana 大日如来 and his "Buddha's Divine Palm 如来神掌".

The one hand that subdues evil, and returns light and justice to the universe.

His name refers to the sun 太阳. And that's why, for the Lotus version, the rays of the sun are his aura.

Many a times, we really need the power of the great sun to chase away darkness, illnesses, evils.

May those who receive blessings from the Vairocana Buddha 大日如来佛 achieve wealth and success as powerful as the sun.

May you also achieve your grand ambitions swiftly and gloriously.

Zodiac Guardian for HORSE: Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva 大势至菩萨

Some have come to "complain" to me, that I spoke very little about the zodiac Guardian for Horse -- Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva 大势至菩萨.

I haven't forgotten about you.

Just that, while Mahasthamaprapta 大势至菩萨 is also quite elusive, and has not appeared in pop culture as much.

In fact, Mahasthamaprapta 大势至 didn't really appear in the classic "Journey to the West"《西游记》. Unlike the other Bodhisattvas. Manjusri 文殊菩萨 (Guardian for Rabbit) appeared twice.

So who is Mahasthamaprapta 大势至?

In one of the reincarnations, Mahasthamaprapta 大势至菩萨 is the younger brother of Guan Yin. That's why they are portrayed side by side in the anime《南无阿弥陀佛!-莲台UTENA》, and addresses Guan Yin as "big brother".

Together with Guan Yin and Amitabha Buddha (Guardian for Dog and Pig), they are the 西方三圣 Holy Trinity of the Western Paradise. As such, Mahasthamaprapta 大势至 is often considered as the "third Buddha", right after Guan Yin.

Mahasthamaprapta 大势至菩萨, the name literally means "arrival of the great strength". Because of his ultimate light of wisdom, wherever he goes to, the heavens and earths will shake.

It was said: "When this Bodhisattva walks, all the worlds in the ten directions shake...when this Bodhisattva sits, all kingdoms of seven jewels sway" (“此菩萨行时,十方世界,一切震动……此菩萨坐时,七宝国土,一时动摇”,《观无量寿经》).

Now that's a true influencer of great power.

That's why the Lotus version has scepters 权杖 carved on the back, representing great strength, great power, great benefactors.

Zodiac Guardian for DRAGON and SNAKE: Samantabhadra Bodhisattva 普贤菩萨

A colleague to 文殊菩萨 Manjusri Bodhisattva (Guardian for Rabbit), is 普贤菩萨 Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, Guardian for Dragon and Snake.

While 文殊菩萨 Manjusri is more about wisdom, 普贤菩萨 Samantabhadra is more about deeds -- aka taking action.

The interesting thing about the Lotus version, once again, look closely at the background, is full of footprints. And the footprints are imprinted with the Buddhism swastika 卍, symbolizing the auspicious footprints of the Buddha.

Some sources say that a person makes about 35,000 choices daily, both conscious and unconscious ones. Of course, some are more important than others. BUT also we know, life's destiny is an accumulation and tally of good and bad choices. Even with great knowledge, one is not definitively certain that a choice is entirely correct. You might have seen others making so terrible choices, but somehow by a twist of fate, the results turned out to be wonderful.

What we can seek, is to be blessed at the steps we take. Every footprint we make on our journey, let it be auspicious, and blessed by amazing energy and luck.

The Buddhism swastika 卍 is pronounced as "wan" is Chinese, which is similar-sounding to "万" (meaning: ten-thousand, plenty, all). "足", which refers to footprints, also means abundance. When your footprint is imprinted with 卍, it means abundance in every solid step you take.

May those who receive blessings from 普贤菩萨 Samantabhadra Bodhisattva be 卍事足 (万事足) abundant in all things.

Zodiac Guardian for RABBIT: Manjusri Bodhisattva 文殊菩萨

After 虚空藏菩萨 Akasagarbha Bodhisattva for Ox and Tiger, now for friends born in year of Rabbit: 文殊菩萨 Manjusri Bodhisattva.

Manjusri is one of the 4 FOUR Bodhisattvas in Buddhism; rides on a lion, representing strength and order. Manjusri is the number one representation of wisdom (that's why Master Yun is taking photo of Manjusri jadeite pendant with the black Duan inkstone 黑端!).

Speaking of the black Duan inkstone, check out our "HBL package" -- something for you, for your kids, for the house's fengshui. To booster literati, good grades, promotion luck.

The Lotus version has a special touch, look at the background again: it's a wall of 菩提 Bodhi (fruit), shaped like hearts.

The Bodhi Tree was where Buddha achieved enlightenment. And the Bodhi Tree has been considered as "the tree of awakening". Bodhi also means "to awaken", "to understand".

It is important to have blessings and wealth in our hands, in our pockets. But it is most crucial to have them in our hearts, for that is where the source is. We might gain some, lose some, daily. We might go through a crisis. But as long as our hearts are strong and has the capacity for gold, gold shall manifest.

We call this 心有所想,手中所得 (what your heart desires, you shall receive them in your hands).

May those who receive blessings from 文殊菩萨 Manjusri Bodhisattva, receive blessings of wisdom and strength that take root in their hearts.

Zodiac Guardian for OX and TIGER: Akasagarbha Bodhisattva 虚空藏菩萨

Akasagarbha Bodhisattva 虚空藏菩萨 (for Ox and Tiger), is more elusive in the sects of Chinese Buddhism -- that's why you might not have heard of him before we talked about zodiac Guardian Buddhas!

He's very famous in Japanese Buddhism though, especially prayed to for Akasagarbha 虚空藏's boost in extraordinary memory prowess. Perhaps parents want to take note of this.

Still, he is one of the major 8 EIGHT Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism 大乘佛法. A flaming sword in the right hand, a lotus with glistening pearls in the left hand, representing wisdom through persistence, and fortunate blessings.

A unique feature of the Lotus version, take a closer look: in the background, it's endless clouds. "虚空 (literally emptiness and void)" doesn't exactly mean "nothing", it actually means boundless.

Boundless wisdom and fortune, for those who receive blessings from Akasagarbha 虚空藏.

Some scriptures even mentioned, Akasagarbha 虚空藏 is so boundless, that in a sense, he can transcend time and space as he wished.

Akasagarbha 虚空藏 in "Ghost Catcher - Legend of Beauty Zhongkui"《天师钟馗》(2010)

Perhaps this is an essence to the BOUNDLESSNESS that Akasagarbha 虚空藏 represents.
