I mentioned the last time that not all jadeites are green, they are
instead like diamonds, available in different colours, ranging from the common
white to the extremely rare pink. We call top grade green jadeites Imperial
Jadeite as it was a favourite of Empress Dowager Cixi (慈禧太后) of the Qing Empire. She was such an avid collector of jadeite—loving only jadeite and had no interest in
diamonds.
Cixi’s love for jadeite was almost an obsession, even her funerary
objects were mainly made up of her favourite jadeites. Amongst them were ten
jadeites peaches with green skin and pink tips that looked convincingly real.
Even though a lover of good quality green jadeite, Cixi agreed that pink
jadeites are extremely rare. If Imperial Jadeites are considered as one in a
thousand, then this pink jadeite will be one in a billion. So if you wish to
own the wealth of more than a billion others…. like: a single red in the midst of thick foliage, then this pink cabochon belongs to no one
else but you.
